Travelling the Wheel of Time
We have traveled full circle around the solar Wheel of the Year,
Birch to Beat the Heat
Plants inspire me to be present, to stay grounded, and to give thanks for whatever I am currently experiencing. Last week, on one particularly hot day, I was inspired (by my plant-friends, no doubt) to make myself a refreshing drink of pineapple juice and black birch twig infusion. It is so cooling for the body and tastes incredible!
Veronica Officinalis
One of my favorite springtime(and lesser-known) plants: Veronica!I'd like to see this generous plant come back into more popular usage. It's one of the little-known, sort of forgotten herbs. There are thousands of species of Veronica, including Veronica officinalis, also known as Speedwell. The species designation "officinalis" refers to a plant that has been an officially recognized medicine in the U.S. Or British pharmacopeia…
Mind and Body Mantra

Mulling about Mullein Under Siege in my Medicine Wheel and Elsewhere
Everywhere I’ve gone this summer I’ve seen beautiful first and second year mullein plants, one of my favorite remedies for the respiratory system. That is, they are beautiful for a short while, then they are consumed by mullein weevils, an introduced bug from Europe, brought in to kill mulleins. The entire seed stalks go blacks and the leaves disintegrate, turning from a full and spongy soft texture and light green color to a dull brown, crumbling, disintegrating mess…

Topical Herbal Medicine This Thursday - And an excerpt of a healing story
Though I may not be the first herbalist that comes to mind for topical first aid medicine, I've actually had a good amount of successful experience with it. In addition to applications for wounds and bruises, topical herbal medicine offers another essential means of self-care…
