Recap of Healing Spices Class
Two weeks ago, I taught Healing Spices at NY Open Center. The class was made up of 20+ eager students who were ready to learn and share.
I spoke about how basil is an effective anti-depressant, ginger can relieve lower back pain when used as a bath, and rosemary tea improves memory. We explored uses for hot, spicy herbs such as ginger, cayenne, garlic, black pepper, mustard, and horseradish and took a tour of aromatic herbs such as sage, rosemary, marjoram, basil, lavender, and thyme. We also touched on the medicinal properties of seeds such as sunflower, sesame and pumpkin, and the health benefits of foods such as honey, vinegar, and chocolate.
We tried quite a few healing vinegars, oxymels and infusions.
Everyone left with ideas on how they could use their common kitchen herbs as medicine.
