Nourishing the Musculoskeletal System

Nourishing the musculoskeletal system is as important as nourishing any other. The best way to do this is with food, herbs, and exercise, although some supplements may be necessary, depending on the person, the history, etc. Mineral-rich infusion are vital for nourishing ongoing musculoskeletal health. The following are some I particularly favor.

Red clover infusion is a great source of bio-available minerals that support excellent musculoskeletal health. Nettles are rich in iron and calcium, and also feed the kidneys. Oat straw's array of vitamins and minerals builds bones and increases flexibility in the joints, as well as relieving pain. I mentioned mullein for magnesium and much more. Alfalfa and red raspberry are both great sources of calcium. Horsetail heals connective tissue and tones the kidneys. Artemisia vulgaris is rich in minerals that nourish the nervous system, and also the joints and connective tissue. You can drink these infusions individually, as simples, rotating them. You can play with different combinations of two or three herbs together.

Use herbs that you like --- that way you'll remember to drink them. Also, please feel free to experiment. Sometimes an infusion that you don't like when it's hot may be perfectly palatable to you cold, or vice-versa.

Joint and Bone Blend Infusion Recipe

  • 3/4 cup dried oat straw (stalks and usually some seeds)

  • 1/4-1/2 cup dried horsetail

  • 3/4 cup dried red clover blossoms

Put the herbs together in a half-gallon jar. Add boiling water to the top, and cover tightly. Steep overnight. Decant the infusion and squeeze out the herbs. Refrigerate to store. Heat and/or sweeten with honey if desired.

Drink the infusion freely, 1-4 cups daily. Rotate your herbs, using simples and different combinations as desired or needed.
