Cry Me a River
Crying is how we feel and heal grief and it's something we all have an innate ability to do. The fact that tears do not come easily for so many people is unnatural and culturally induced. Sometimes nothing feels as good as a good cry. And sometimes our healing tears can be uncontrollable.
Perhaps with many of us still reeling with deep concern to downright despair and fear, we need to have mass cry-ins. People could take turns weeping when others are too exhausted from weeping to continue. Or maybe we ought to group together to cry for specific people, animals, wild places that are hurting the worst, being the most mistreated, disrespected, and unappreciated. Perhaps we can have crying vigils where groups cry, one taking over for the next, for whatever has us the saddest and most passionately wishing we could do something for, like stopping the outrageous injustices being perpetrated against the indigenous people and allies protecting the water at Standing Rock.
What would happen if millions of people around the world gathered at the same time for a mass cry for our beloved planet? People for whom tears don't come easily could wail and keen as an expression of their grief. Could its sheer raw honesty change the game? Could it turn the tide of policy?
In Pip Waller's Holistic Anatomy she writes that crying in response to pain (physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual) is one of the only innate pathways we have for releasing an overdose of stress hormones out of our bodies. Tears get those stress hormones out of our circulation.
Crying is my remedy of choice right now. Cry out all the loss. Cry out the rage and the fear of what could come to be, cry out the deep concern for our fellow beings, our friends of all nationalities and colors, our bees and monarch butterflies, our bears and rivers, our friends and families.
Cry out all that would keep us full of regret for what's past, or full of fear and anger for what looks like it's coming down the pike, if our current protections for people, water, air, and earth are removed, and let's enter the present together, cleansed by our own tears, newly energized and clear about how to gather our wits and our allies together in the most effective ways.
We the people, when unified, are an unstoppable force.
The amount of creative life energy that would be available by releasing so much stagnant sadness could cause the pendulum to come swinging back to the side of the sanity of sanctity much faster than it inevitably will anyway. When you cross the line with messing with mother earth, she'll win, every time. And when you ally with her and all the living forces of earth, magic and miracles will happen
