Dear herbal friends,

I am completely leery of getting involved with governmental or even herbal organizations licensing herbalists. I think that this would be the surest way to a substantial loss of herbal integrity in the world and genuinely disastrous for the people who depend on herbs for medicine and for spiritual awakening and healing. This is the road to take to foster separating people from the earth, the plants and their own personal power. It is an equally sure road to thinking first and foremost in terms of protections, profits, companies, and corporations as opposed to caring for people. I don’t think this is so much a cooperative moment, I think it’s more about co-opting us than cooperating with us.

Licensing herbalists won’t protect people any more than licensing any other health care professional does. People need to remember that we can think and feel and glean information for ourselves. We need to trust word of mouth recommendations and referrals. As an herbalist, your reputation is your silver and gold.

I don’t think that as herbalists, as Earth lovers, we want to speak in support of laboratory requirements, standardization of herbal medicine or herbal practice, institutionalized schooling and licensing requirements, whether accessible to everyone or not.

The way I see it, we are either ushering in the world we want and need to have come into being, (you know the world I mean; the world of unity rather than separation, love rather than fear, wholeness and life/death/rebirth, rather than fragmentation, reduction, and death/death/death) or we aren’t.

We need to stand firm and speak to the truths that herbs and the gifts of the earth belong to everyone. Thank you for who you are and what you do, and for informing me of what is happening here. I appreciate being invited to express my opinions and hope you find them helpful.

With Green Blessings,

Robin Rose Bennett
